Double Shelix is a podcast all about women in STEM, the research grind, and inclusive science. We want to help you find role models, be inspired, create inclusive STEM communities, develop professional skills, and share your love of science.

Sally Winkler

Host and Founder

Sally recently graduated with her PhD in Bioengineering at UC Berkeley, and received her bachelor's in Bioengineering from Stanford University . She is passionate about bioinspired materials, women's health, and having difficult conversations about the struggles that scientists face throughout their career journeys. Sally is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, Boyd Fellow, and Siebel Fellow. 

Host and Founder

Kayla is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University. She recently graduated with her PhD in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley, and received her bachelor's in Chemistry and Human Biology from Michigan State University.  She  is passionate about biomaterials, mentorship, and training scientists in the professional skills they need to succeed in STEM careers. Kayla is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Predoctoral Fellow (F31), and Siebel Fellow.

Double Shelix Awards

Double Shelix was awarded the 2018 Tech Initiative Next Generation Engagement Athena Award for young women in science.

Double Shelix was profiled in Berkeley Engineer magazine in 2018.

Double Shelix was named one of the 27 Best New Science Podcasts in 2020 by Genuis Lab Gear.
